Certified Code: Single-Use License

Single-Use License Overview: This license applies to all templates purchased on the Certified Code Template Marketplace.

The Single-Use License grants you, the purchaser, the ability to use the template on an ongoing, non-exclusive basis. You're allowed to use the template to create one single End Product for yourself or for one client (referred to as a “single application”), and the End Product can be distributed for free. The “End Product” is the final customized version/implementation of the template that you will use or sell to a client.

In other words... You can use a Paid Template for only one person/business/project. If you want to use the purchased template for a different client or project, then you'll have to buy another license (by buying the template again). You can customize the template to any degree (adding, altering, or removing text, images, graphics, layout, design, etc.) to fit your project's needs.

What you can do with it:

  • You can create one End Product for a client, and after you’re done, you can transfer it over to the client for any fee.

  • You can modify this template and manipulate it. The resulting works are subject to this license. This means no matter how much you modified a site that was based on this template, the resulting work is still subject to this license.

  • You can download the template (if you have a Lite Account Plan or above) and host it on a different server without attributing back to Certified Code. The Single-Use License applies to the template when it is hosted on Certified Code, another server, or your computer.

In other words... You can do anything to a template and use it for one project or sell it to one person/business. You can also purchase a new license if you want to use a newly purchased or customized template for another person/business/project.

What you can't do with it:

  • You can’t sell the End Product to more than one client. Your client can't resell the End Product.

  • You can't incorporate the template into a work created for redistribution or resale by you or your client. You can’t re-distribute for free or resell the template as-is or after modifications.

  • You can’t extract a single component out of a template and use it outside the scope of the End Product.

  • The client or end user of the End Product can't extract a single component out of a template and use it outside the scope of the End Product.

In other words... The template as a whole and the things inside of it cannot be resold or given out for free. If you buy a template, modify its contents and then sell it to a person/business, that person/business can't sell it or give it away.

Miscellaneous Info: The creator of the template retains ownership of the template but grants you the license on the terms above. This license is between the template creator and you. Certified Code Inc is not a party to this license or the one giving you the license.

If a breach in this license is discovered, the creator of the template may take legal action. Certified Code may also take administrative action such as closing your account.

In other words... If you use Certified Code to build a site from scratch (i.e., without using a free or paid template), you can do whatever you want with it. You're not subject to the Single-Use License. You can find more info in the Certified Code Terms of Service.

Free Template License Overview: This license applies to all free templates on the Certified Code Template Marketplace.

All free templates are royalty-free for use in both personal and commercial projects.

What you can do with it:

  • You are allowed to download and modify the template for any number of projects and for any number of clients.

  • You can sell a unique website design that's based on a free template to a client. However, you cannot redistribute, resell, or license a unique website design that's based on a free template on a third-party marketplace.

  • You can download an altered version of a free template and host it on a different server without attributing back to Certified Code.

What you can't do with it:

  • You can't redistribute, resell, lease, license, sub-license, or offer free templates as-is or any individual component of the free template to any third party or marketplace.

  • You cannot use your Certified Code account for the sole purpose of downloading free templates.

If you use Certified Code to build a site from scratch (i.e., without using a free or paid template), you can do whatever you want with it. You're not subject to the Free License. You can find more info in the Certified Code Terms of Service.

Template Terms of Use Transferring and Duplicating Templates: When you transfer a paid template to another person on Certified Code or elsewhere, you transfer your license to that person. You are not allowed to "duplicate" a paid template and use it for another website. Each use of a paid template requires purchase of a Single-Use License.

Template Availability: Certified Code gives no assurance that a particular template (free or paid) will remain available for additional purchases or downloads. Templates in the Marketplace may be deleted or edited by the original designer or by Certified Code staff at any time. Certified Code may modify or delete a template from the Marketplace that contains unlawful, offensive, or obscene material. Review Certified Code's Terms of Service for more information.

Support: Technical support for a paid template is the responsibility of the designer. Certified Code accepts no responsibility to provide support unless the problem stems from Certified Code's built-in features. Paid templates may be "updated" by the designer or Certified Code staff to reflect new updates to the template design or functionality. You, the purchaser, can re-download the updated paid template as many times as you'd like — as long as it's being used for one End Product (see Single-Use License above). Technical support for a template cannot be provided by the designer or by Certified Code when the template is exported from Certified Code.

Templates are not "themes": The design and layout of a chosen or purchased template will not automatically replace the design and layout of a pre-existing website in your account. Templates come as-is and may require customization.

Intellectual Property: Templates that contain graphics of real products, trademarks, or other intellectual property owned by others have not been properly released. These graphics are licensed on the basis of editorial use only inside the template. After purchasing a template, it is your responsibility to consider whether your use of these graphics requires clearance, and if it does, you must obtain that clearance from the intellectual property rights owner. The creator of the template retains ownership of the template but grants you the license on the license terms (Single-Use License or Free License). This license is between the template creator and you. Certified Code Inc is not a party to this license or the one giving you the license. By purchasing or choosing a template, you agree to these terms and to Certified Code's Terms of Use.
